Despite President Obama’s statement during his healthcare address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday that abortion would not be paid for by the current healthcare bill, the fact is that actually, it would.
Two congressmen, one Republican and the other Democrat, co-sponsored an amendment that would prohibit federal funding of abortion in the health care plan. That amendment was voted down by the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
In fact, an amendment sponsored by Representative Lois Capps (D-CA) that mandates funding for abortions was accepted and included in the Bill.
The House Bill would increase abortion availability exponentially. Not only would the House Healthcare plan pay for abortions using tax-payer money, but it would mandate that federally-subsidized private insurance plans would cover elective abortions as well, again using federal funds.
