"Coming Out" - Again

In almost any community of ideas, there are topics that are considered forbidden or taboo. For evolutionists, creationism is taboo. For Republicans, any positive comment about welfare is taboo. For Democrats of the Northeastern US variety, laissez-faire economics spells disaster for those in need. For naturopaths, medicine is off limits; and for traditional physicians naturopathy is likewise looked down upon.

Correspondingly, there are forbidden topics and manners of expression that risk the ire of the homosexual community. I found the article "The Day I Decided To Stop Being Gay" to be both sympathetic to homosexuality and yet fearlessly stepping on some of the subjects considered taboo in that community. For example, he writes:

I have long argued that homosexuality is natural but abnormal, to a torrent of hostility from gay friends who refuse to acknowledge that what you are and what stake you hold in society are not the same. Loving your own sex occurs in nature, without artificial triggers. But it is still not average behaviour. Homosexuality is an aberration; a natural aberration. Gays are a minority and minorities, though sometimes vocal, do not hold sway.

Note that the article (originally found at http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/men/article6990013.ece and reported at http://www.virtueonline.org/portal/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1194…) was not written by a Christian. It's highly likely that you will not appreciate some of the things the writer says. But we need to recognize courage where we see it.1
